Welcome to the Website
for Montessori Teachers Association of PA, Inc.
Montessori Teachers Association of Pennsylvania Inc. was founded in 1976 by a group of Montessorians in the Philadelphia region.
The organization published a newsletter, The Sensitive Periodical, and directories of individual members and member schools, sold to Montessori suppliers. The MTA-PA held a fall conference and a number of small workshops each year. Past workshop presenters have included Mother Isabel Eugenie, Sanford Jones, Margot Waltuch, Aline Wolf, David Kahn, Marianne Moore, Marlene Barron and Joyce Pickering, among many others.
The last elected officers' terms ended in 1997. At that time there
were over 200 members. The organization was dormant for four years
until Marie Conti, dedicated Montessorian and a past president, started
it up again. When Marie took the position of Senior Director of School
Accreditation and Member Programs at American Montessori Society in New
York, she could no longer continue as Acting President.
In April 2008, the group became active again. The January speaker's
series dinners hosted at Chestnut HIll College and an annual Spring
Conference have become gathering points for the Montessori community.
More events and a new website are planned for the 2011-12 school year.
